Red Hawks host successful golf tournament

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College athletic department held its third annual golf tournament on Friday at Rock Barn Country Club & Spa in Conover.

The fundraiser event was a success with a total of eight teams participating.

Following Friday's pre-tournament meal provided by the staff at Rock Barn Country Club, CVCC President Dr. Garrett Hinshaw and head baseball coach Paul Rozzelle spoke to those participating about the impact and importance of the Red Hawks' athletics programs.

A special video made by Jackson Creative, which showcased the impact CVCC athletics have provided for its former athletes, was also shown to the golfers.

Golfers then took to the course for their 1:30 p.m. shotgun start for the captain's choice format tournament.

After playing all 18 holes of the Jackson Course at Rock Barn, the winning team was determined.

Carding a round of 53, the team of Brent Johnson, David Barnes, Ashley Sigmon and Spencer Ramseur, took bragging rights and the first-place prize.

The team of Dr. Garrett Hinshaw, Bryan Hollar, Doyle Wyantt and Kelly Lindhardt finished second after carding a round of 55.

The third-place team carded a round of 59 and consisted of Kirt Reddinger, Gordy Kastelic, Byron Auton and Rob Wedding.

Prizes were given out for closest to the pin on Hole No. 9 and longest drive on Hole No. 18. Those went to Bryan Hollar and Kris Harvey, respectively.
