Giving to Athletics
Catawba Valley Community College participates in the National Junior College Athletic Association, also known as the NJCAA. The CVCC Red Hawks currently compete at the Division II level in 4 sports, Baseball, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Volleyball. Over the last 10 years the Red Hawks have seen great success claiming 13 conference titles, 11 Region X titles, 7 district titles, and 7 national tournament appearances.
While the Red Hawks are successful on the playing field, the athletic department still faces many obstacles. Currently the State of North Carolina prohibits educational institutions from using state funds to support an athletic program. In the past, student fees and a portion of the book store profits were used to support the athletic program. However, as student enrollment has decreased, online book sales have increased and the cost of travel has increased, so the Red Hawks athletic department faces its toughest opponent yet.
Over the past year CVCC and all NC community colleges have been hit with drastic cuts to their budget. The Red Hawks athletic department strives to maintain and grow and therefore must find unique and original ways to continue the financial growth of the Red Hawks athletic department. With new financial opportunities the Red Hawks athletic department looks to step into the future and continue in their winning success.
This is where YOU can help. The Red Hawks athletic department is asking you to become a “Hawk Hero.” The Student-Athletes, coaching staff, and Red Hawk supporters have noted you as a friend and wish to ask you to help in the support and building of the winning tradition at CVCC. No gift is too little, even a dollar can help. All monies received will go to the athletic department or program you wish to fund future scholarships, equipment purchases, travel expenses, and other needs that arise by the athletic teams.
