Red Hawks Baseball defeats Louisburg College after late game single, 7-3

The CVCC Red Hawks and Louisburg College exchanged the lead five times on Saturday, but the Red Hawks ended up on top with a 7-3 win over Louisburg.

The Red Hawks took the lead in the fourth inning and held on for the victory. CVCC went up for good on an RBI single by Seth Hubbard off Adam Kirkman, scoring Skyler Strickland.

Lou Matarazzo had two extra-base hits for the Red Hawks. He doubled in the second inning, singled in the fourth inning, and homered in the fifth inning.

Justin Norton got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over six innings. Norton struck out five, walked three and gave up five hits.

Danny Sullivan, Matarazzo and Strickland helped lead the Red Hawks. They combined for seven hits and two RBIs.

Kirkman ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just six innings, walked two, struck out six, and allowed five runs.

The top of the second saw the Red Hawks take an early lead, 1-0. Matarazzo doubled to ignite the offense.

It didn't take long for Louisburg to answer as it scored one run of its own in the second. Louisburg College scored on a sacrifice fly by Thomas Gulley.

The Red Hawks never surrendered the lead after the fourth inning. The runs piled on thanks to a two-run error.

CVCC pushed one run across in each of the fifth, eighth and ninth. In the fifth, the Red Hawks scored on a solo home run by Matarazzo.
