Red Hawks take out CCBC-Essex with help from Randal Ortiz, 6-2

Randal Ortiz went 2-2 as the Red Hawks took home a 6-2 victory over CCBC-Essex in seven innings at Hickory, NC on Saturday.

He doubled in the second inning and singled in the fifth inning.

Bryce Hensley kept contact to a minimum, striking out 10 CCBC-Essex batters. Hensley allowed one earned run, four hits and no walks over five innings.

The game's last lead went to the Red Hawks thanks to a second inning rally that saw three runs cross the plate on a fielder's choice.

One run in the top of the third helped CCBC-Essex close its deficit to 3-1. But the CCBC-Essex threat came to an end when Hensley logged a 3rd out strike out.

It didn't take long for the Red Hawks to answer as it scored two runs of its own in the third. CVCC scored on an RBI double by Danny Sullivan and a sacrifice fly by Skyler Strickland.

After pushing across one run in the top of the fifth, CCBC-Essex faced just a 6-2 deficit. An error set off Essex rally, but the Essex threat came to an end when Hensley logged another 3rd out strike out.
