Red Hawks jumps on New River early for 14-1 win

The Red Hawks jumped out to an early lead on New River and captured a 14-1 victory on Saturday.

With nine runs in the first three innings, the Red Hawks left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

An RBI double by Ivan Acuna, a two-run home run by Danny Sullivan, and a solo home run by Lou Matarazzo in the first inning and an RBI double by Sullivan and an RBI double by Brandon Ford during the second inning fueled Catawba Valley Community College Red Hawks Varsity's offense early.

Sullivan racked up four RBIs on four hits for the Red Hawks.

Justin Norton baffled New River, striking out seven batters. Norton allowed one earned run, three hits and one walk over five innings.

The Red Hawks easily handled New River pitching as seven hitters combined for 16 hits, 12 RBIs and 12 runs scored.
