Red Hawks win again with 11-2 win over Frederick in the NJCAA World Series.

For the second tournament in a row the Red Hawks move fields going from the David Allen Memorial Ballpark to the Northern Oklahoma College field 15 minutes up the road.  In the Region X/Southeast District tournament the games were moved from Kinston, NC to Martinsville, VA.

In the twelfth game of the NJCAA DII World Series the Red Hawks took on Frederick CC, who lost to Western Oklahoma, in an elimination game.  This was the third elimination game the Red Hawks faced after falling in the opening round to Western Oklahoma and it was the third win in a row for the Red Hawks who beat Frederick 11-2 in seven innings.

The Red Hawks jumped on the board first in the bottom of the second bringing in 4 runs.  Danny Sullivan led off the inning hitting his third homerun of the World Series with a solo shot over the left field fence.  Skyler Strickland hit a bases loaded single up the middle to score Lou Matarazzo and Ty Andrus hit into a fielder's choice at second but Brandon Ford was able to come in from third.  Alex Minton scored the final run of the inning on a passed ball at home.

In the bottom of the third the Red Hawks add another run when a Randal Ortiz single up the middle scored Acuna from second who had a leadoff single to give the Red Hawks a 6-0 lead after 3.

Frederick was able to add a run in the top of the fourth when a bases loaded singled brought in the leadoff runner who reached on a walk.  Frederick had the bases loaded with no outs, but a Purus strikeout, popup to shortstop and then a fielder's choice to Ortiz gets the Red Hawks out of the jam ending the Frederick threat.

After the threat the Red Hawks come out and answer in the bottom of the fourth with a four run inning.  After Lee and Acuna reach second and third with back to back singles Sullivan hits a double to the left field corner scoring both baserunners.  Brandon Ford adds two more when a two run home run blast to centerfield gives the Red Hawks a 10-1 lead.

After Frederick hits a solo homerun in the top of the fifth the Red Hawks answer with a run of their own when an Ortiz double to left center scores Sullivan who reached on a hit by pitch to take an 11-2 lead after five.

Starting left handed pitcher Taylor Purus got his second win of the World Series throwing  5 innings for the Red Hawks allowing only two runs on three hits and posted six strikeouts.  Nick Horning came in for relief throwing two innings and shutting down Frederick with no runs and no hits with 2 strikeouts.

The Red Hawks offense was lead by Randal Ortiz who went 3-4 with two runs batted in. Ivan Acuna and Danny Sullivan each added 2 hits and Sullivan hit his third home run of the World Series. Brandon Ford was 1-2 with 3 runs batted in and a homerun.

The Red Hawks will play tomorrow at 8:00pm eastern time against the winner of the LSU-Eunice vs. Western Oklahoma game.
