Red Hawks fall in heart breaker to #1 Patrick Henry 5-7

The Red Hawk baseball team fell to the #1 seed Patrick Henry Patriots in the evening game of day three in the Region X/Southeast District tournament.  In a game that was tightly contested by two of the top teams in Region X , the Red Hawks ultimate fate was sealed by 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth by the Patriots.

Starting pitcher, Taylor Purus, was able to start the game strong going 4.0 innings giving up 1 run on 1 hit while walking 5 and striking out 7.  The offense was led by Ty Andrus who went 2 for 3 with 2 walks, 2 stolen bases and 1 run scored.  Craig Zalewa knocked in 2 rbi on a double, while Brandon Ford had 1 rbi.

The Red Hawks were able to strike in the top of the first when Andrus scored on a Brandon Ford single.  Craig Zalewa, the next batter, ripped a double down the right field line to score Ortiz who reached on a walk and Ford.  The Red Hawks added one more run when an error by the Patrick Henry shortstop allowed Zalewa to score from second.

Patrick Henry was able to chip back in the game scoring 1 run in the fourth or another run in the fifth inning, but the Red Hawks tacked back on a run in the top of the sixth when an Aaron Mauldin ground out allowed Walker Smith to score from third giving the Red Hawks a 5-2 lead.

Pasco was able to knot up the game in the bottom of the seventh with a 3 run homerun over the right field fence.  With the game tied 5-5 the Red Hawks defense faltered in the bottom of the eighth allowing two runs to score when they made 2 throwing errors on one play.  The Red Hawks were unable to answer in the top of the ninth and the #1 seed Patrick Henry took the win eliminating the Red Hawks from the tournament.

The Red Hawks finish the year going 30-25 and after a first round loss in the tournament saw the team explode to beat New River 23-0 and the #3 seed Pasco-Hernando 8-3 before falling to #1 Patrick Henry. 

In the tournament the Red Hawks sophomore Craig Zalewa had a great weekend leading the team in average (.588), hits (10), doubles (3), homeruns (3), rbi (10), on base percentage (.632) and slugging percentage (1.294).  Sophomore Brandon Ford led the team with 10 runs and a .667 batting average with runners in scoring position.  Ford was second with 2 homeruns and a .474 batting average while Ty Andrus posted a .571 on base percentage leading the team with 5 walks while grabbing 3 stolen bases.
