WHITEVILLE, N.C. — A bases-loaded, walk-off walk  by David Stowers helped lift Southeastern to a 12-11 victory against the 13th-ranked Catawba Valley Community College baseball team in the two squad's rubber match on Sunday.

The contest, which lasted just under four hours, included five lead changes and three ties during the nine innings played.

Catawba Valley (34-13, 13-6 in Region X) grabbed an early 3-0 lead by scoring three runs in the top of the second inning, including an RBI double by catcher Brett Macchia and an RBI single by center fielder Rod Munoz.

Southeastern (15-19-1, 8-9 in Region X) surged back ahead in the contest by scoring two runs each in the second, third and fourth innings, led by an RBI single by Trevor Johnson, a two-run single by Bladen Strickland and an RBI double by Gage Hammonds.

The Red Hawks battled back from down 6-3 through four innings of Sunday's contest to take a three-run lead through 5.5 innings.

Catawba Valley scored three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, including RBI singles by Cory Watt and Garrison Burress and an RBI sac fly by Graham Mitchell.

Trent McKay's three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning — the first hit of his CVCC career — powered the Red Hawks in front of the Rams, 9-6.

However, Southeastern would tie the game in the sixth inning behind a two-run homer from Hammonds and a solo home run by Justin Bowers.

CVCC looked to take the lead in the game for good in the top of the seventh inning when Mitchell drove home a run on a sac fly and designated hitter Tyler Campbell connected on his second home run of the series — a solo shot over the left field wall.

Despite that effort, the Rams slowly chipped away at their deficit, scoring one run in each of the final three innings, including an RBI sac fly by Strickland and a solo home run by Luke Orr.

Southeastern loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth inning on a walk by Johnson, a single by pinch hitter Ironeyes Locklear and an intentional walk of Ted McNeil to set up Stowers' walk-off walk for the game-winning run.

The CVCC baseball team returns to the field on Wednesday for a single nine-inning game against USC Lancaster at Henkel-Alley Field.
