Red Hawks top Cobras in midweek rivalry contest

LENOIR, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team took down rival Caldwell 10-4 during a midweek contest held on Wednesday at Walker Stadium.

Connor Bradley led the Red Hawks (9-12) by going 2-for-4 at the plate, including a pair of doubles, and three RBI. Carter Lindsay also drove in three runs for CVCC, and teammate Eli Harpalani also recorded two hits in the contest.

Down 2-0 early, Catawba Valley scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning, including a two-run double by Bradley, to gain the lead for good in the game.

The Red Hawks added some insurance late, scoring in each of the final three innings, including one run in the seventh and two each in the eighth and ninth innings, to pull away for the victory.

Samuel Carpenter earned the win on the mound for Catawba Valley in relief of starting pitcher Gavin Sentell. Carpenter allowed no runs, no hits, no walks and struck out four batters in 2.2 innings of work.

The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team returns to action this Friday and Saturday for a three-game conference series against Southwest Virginia.

The Red Hawks and Flying Eagles collide on Friday at Henkel-Alley Field for a single-nine inning game at 6 p.m. before finishing the series with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
