HICKORY, NC. – Catawba Valley Community College has earned the No. 4 seed for the 2017 Region 10 Men's Basketball Tournament, and will travel to Richard Bland College in Petersburg, VA for the first two rounds of the event this weekend, March 4-5.
The Red Hawks finished their regular season with an overall record of 19-10, including 13-7 in Region 10, to claim the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 Bryant & Stratton College (16-13, 12-8) in a tournament quarterfinal contest on Sunday, March 5 at 10 a.m. The Red Hawks were able to sweep Bryant & Stratton in 2 games during the regular season.
The Region 10 Tournament semifinals and championship will take place next Friday and Saturday, March 10-11, at Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The Louisburg vs. TBD winner will play the winner of CVCC vs. BSC on Friday, March 10 at 4 p.m., followed by the winners of the RBC vs. TBD and PHCC vs. WTCC on Friday, March 10 at 6 p.m. The Region 10 Championship game is set for Saturday, March 11 at 3:30 p.m.
Catawba Valley is one game away from reaching a 20 win season for the second consecutive season, this would be the first time in program history that the Red Hawks team has had back to back 20 win seasons. Catawba Valley has been led by sophomore guard Derick Brewer (Charlotte, NC) (16.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists) sophomore forward Emmanuel Wembi (Charlotte, NC) (11.5 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists) and sophomore Matthew Powell (Charlotte, NC) (10.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists).
