CVCC men's hoops falls to Pioneers, 80-66

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team gave up 14 3-pointers in a 80-66 setback against Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday afternoon at the Tarlton Complex.

Tyrell Oglesby led the charge for CVCC (1-1), scoring a game-high 22 points, including 12-for-12 from the free throw line.

Victor Tshiona added eight points for the Red Hawks, and teammate Myles Williams scored seven points.

Tracus Chisholm paced the Pioneers (1-1) with 21 points — 12 of which came off 3-pointers.

Trailing by as many as 26 points in the second half, Catawba Valley cut its deficit to just 13 points with three minutes, five seconds remaining, but that was as close as it would get.

CVCC is back in action on Wednesday with a road game against Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute at 7 p.m.
