Red Hawks clipped by Eagles in final seconds, 82-79

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team suffered its second-straight heartbreaking defeat on Wednesday night, falling 82-79 to host Wake Technical Community College.

Tyrell Oglesby scored 20 points to lead CVCC (8-11, 3-7 in Region X) — marking the sixth 20-point performance of the season for the freshman from Inman, S.C. and the second time in three games that he's scored at least 20 points.

Isayah Johnson (12 points) and Caleb Bryson (11 points) also reached double figures in scoring for Catawba Valley.

Down one point with less than 15 seconds to go in the game, the Red Hawks had possession of the basketball, but Oglesby missed the go-ahead basket after being contested by several Eagle defenders.

Eddie Volkerts scored 29 points to pace Wake Tech (9-10, 7-4 in Region X).

The CVCC men's basketball team will try to get back into the win column on Saturday when it travels to Louisburg College for a 3 p.m. conference contest.
