Red Hawks set record in 114-97 win against Titans
HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team defeated visiting Guilford Tech 114-97 on Wednesday night at the Tarlton Complex — making history in the process.
 
The Red Hawks (9-12, 4-8 in Region X) set a new program record for points in a conference game in the contest, and the 114 points are also the second-most in a game in Catawba Valley men's basketball history.
 
Freshman Tyrell Oglesby led CVCC in the contest with 25 points and four steals, while sophomore Steve Ruszala added a double double — 17 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Isayah Johnson (16 points), Caleb Bryson (15 points), Myles Williams (13 points) and Marcus Talley (11 points) also reached double figures in scoring for the Red Hawks in the game.
 
CVCC surged ahead 53-34 at halftime of the contest and scored 61 second-half points to record its fourth conference victory of the season and avenge a 93-83 loss to the Titans on Jan. 10.
 
Drew Cone and Eric Peaks both scored 23 points to lead Guilford Tech (7-11, 1-10 in Region X).
 
The CVCC men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday as part of a home conference doubleheader. 
 
The Red Hawk women's basketball team plays Clinton at 1 p.m. followed by the Red Hawk men's basketball team hosting Bryant & Stratton at 3 p.m.
