Red Hawks fall against No. 20 Bobcats, 100-78

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team suffered a 100-78 conference defeat at the hands of 20th-ranked Bryant & Stratton College (Va.) on Saturday afternoon at the Tarlton Complex.

Sophomore Myles Williams (Morganton, N.C.) paced the Red Hawks (9-13, 4-9 in Region X), scoring 20 points, while Marcus Talley (Charlotte, N.C.) added 14 points in the contest.

Steve Ruszala (Waxhaw, N.C.) also reached double figures in scoring for Catawba Valley with 10 points.

The Bobcats (15-6, 11-3 in Region X) took a 29-11 lead midway through the first half of Saturday's game, but the Red Hawks whittled away that deficit, outscoring the road team 19-10 in the final six minutes of the half.

However, Bryant & Stratton still held a 52-37 advantage at the halftime break.

CVCC trailed by as little as 12 points in the second half, but the visitors proved to be too much, growing their advantage en route to the road victory.

Gerrard Simpkins, Daryus Evans and Caleb Miles each scored 19 points to lead Bryant & Stratton.

The CVCC men's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Patrick Henry Community College. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex.
