Oglesby, Red Hawks throttle Vanguard, 107-87

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team broke triple digits in scoring for the third time this season, topping visiting Vance-Granville 107-87 at the Tarlton Complex on Tuesday night.

Freshman Tyrell Oglesby scored a career-high 29 points in the contest, including 18 of those in the first half to help the Red Hawks (10-15, 5-11 in Region X) gain a 53-40 lead at halftime.

Bernard Gregory and Kenneth Finley Jr. scored 21 and 19 points, respectively, to lead Vance-Granville (1-21, 0-15 in Region X).

Eleven total 3-pointers helped keep the Vanguard within striking distance for most of Tuesday's game.

However, Oglesby's performance combined with Steve Ruszala's 18 points and 10 rebounds and Myles William's 15 points allowed the Red Hawks to snap a three-game skid.

Ruszala's double double is his fifth of the season and seventh of his Red Hawk career.

A slam dunk by Ruszala with 3:45 left in the game helped give the Red Hawks their second 100-point game in the past five contests.

The CVCC men's basketball team will try to continue its winning ways on Saturday with a home conference game against Louisburg College. Tip off for the "Sophomore Day" contest is slated for 3 p.m.
