Red Hawks fall to Region X leader No. 12 Louisburg

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team suffered a 92-66 loss to conference leader Louisburg in its home final on Saturday at the Tarlton Complex.

Freshman Marcus Talley paced the Red Hawks (10-16, 5-12 in Region X) with a career-high 18 points in the contest, including four made 3-pointers.

Before the game, the Red Hawks honored their four sophomore men's basketball players — guards Caleb Bryson, Dante Starr and Myles Williams and forward Steve Ruszala — who were playing the final home game of their Catawba Valley careers.

The visitors proved to be spoilers on this special day for CVCC, and paced by 12 points from Armoni Lee, the Hurricanes (23-4, 16-2 in Region X) pulled ahead 52-28 at halftime.

Louisburg led by as many as 20 points in Saturday's conference game, but Catawba Valley was able to reduce that deficit to as little as 13 points thanks in large part to 10 second-half points from Talley.

However, the Hurricanes would hold a 40-39 edge in scoring during the half to pull away for the 26-point conference win.

Isayah Johnson added 11 points for the Red Hawks, and Tyrell Oglesby also reached double figures in scoring for CVCC with 10 points.

Jordan Oakley scored a game-high 20 points for Louisburg, while Lewis Freeman and Armoni Lee finished with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

The CVCC men's basketball team closes out its regular season with three-straight road games starting Wednesday at Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville, Va. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
