Red Hawks fall against the Bobcats, 84-79

NORFOLK, Va. — Leading throughout the game, the Catawba Valley men's basketball team suffered an 84-79 defeat at the hands of host Bryant & Stratton College on Friday night.

Isayah Johnson paced Catawba Valley with 16 points while Tyrell Oglesby (14 points), Myles Williams (11 points) and Caleb Bryson (11 points) also reached double figures in scoring for the Red Hawks.

The Red Hawks (10-18, 5-14 in Region X) led the majority of Friday night's game, including a 33-29 halftime lead, but the Bobcats (19-9, 15-5 in Region X) scored 24 points in the first five minutes of the second half to power ahead in the contest.

Catawba Valley fought back to take the lead late, but it lost a battle of making free throws down the stretch. Bryant & Stratton received 9-of-9 free throws in the half from Gerrard Simpkins, who scored a game-high 27 points.

The CVCC men's basketball team returns to action for the final game of the regular season on Sunday when it hosts Fayetteville Tech. Tip off is slated for 3 p.m. in Fayetteville, N.C.
