Powell, McFall, Sanders lead Red Hawks in 80-72 win

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team snapped a three-game skid on Wednesday night with a 80-72 road victory against Patrick Henry Community College at Stone Hall.

Jordan Powell paced the Red Hawks (17-8, 9-7 in Region X) with 21 points, while Jonathan McFall added 19 points off the bench.

Catawba Valley fell behind 39-35 to the Patriots (10-10, 6-8) at halftime of Wednesday's conference contest with Powell and McFall both scoring nine points during the first half.

Behind 12 points from Powell and 10 points each from McFall and guard Byron Sanders, the Red Hawks roared back in the second half to gain the lead, and CVCC held off a late charge from the Patriots for their ninth conference win of the 2018-19 campaign.

Sanders joined Powell and McFall by reaching double figures in scoring with 12 points.

The CVCC men's basketball team returns to action on Sunday for its fifth-straight road game when it takes on Vance Granville Community College in Henderson, N.C. Tip off between the Red Hawks and Vanguard is set for 3 p.m.
