Moulden powers CVCC in 107-80 win over Vanguard

HENDERSON, N.C. — Behind a career night from Dezure Moulden, the Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team picked up its second-straight win on Sunday, defeating Vance Granville Community College 107-80 at the Aycock Recreation Center.

Moulden scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Red Hawks, who improve to 18-8 overall and 10-7 in Region X play.

Four other Red Hawks also reached double figures in scoring, including Everett Palmer with 14 points, Zach De La Cruz with 13 points and Jordan Powell and Victor Tshiona with 11 points apiece.

CVCC led by just three points at half, holding a 47-44 advantage against Vance Granville (4-17, 0-15) at the break. Moulden led Catawba Valley with 12 first-half points.

The Red Hawks exploded offensively in the second half, scoring a season-high 60 points during the half en route to its 10th conference win.

Powell, a sophomore forward, scored 10 of those points to lead the second-half charge for CVCC, which had 11 different basketball players scoring at least two points during the half.

Justin Baldwin paced the Vanguard on Sunday with a team-high 28 points.

The CVCC men's basketball team returns to the court on Saturday when it completes its six-game road trip with a conference contest at Louisburg College. Tip off between the Red Hawks and Hurricanes is set for 3 p.m.
