Red Hawks rally falls short on road versus Hurricanes

LOUISBURG, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team overcame a big first half deficit and rallied late, but fell short in an 81-70 loss against Louisburg at the Roger Taylor Arena on Monday night.

Jaylen Prioleau led the Red Hawks (4-3, 2-3 in Region 10) with a team-high 13 points. Tony Hauser added 11 points, while Donovan Evans and Anthony Isbell both scored nine points each.

Catawba Valley, which was competing for the first time since Feb. 20 due to postponements, showed signs from the long lay off and fell behind by 18 points at the halftime break.

Despite its large first-half deficit, CVCC fought back and managed to cut its deficit down to just six points — 74-68 with 2:04 remaining.

However, the Hurricanes were able to make some free throws down the stretch and pull away to hold on for the Region 10 victory.

The CVCC men's basketball team returns to the court on Wednesday for a road conference contest against Central Carolina Community College. Tip off in Sanford, N.C. is set for 7 p.m.
