Evans’ season-high 19 points leads CVCC in 83-77 win

SANFORD, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team earned its second win on the road this season, knocking off Central Carolina 83-77 in conference competition on Wednesday night.

Donovan Evans led the Red Hawks (5-3, 3-3 in Region 10) with a season-high 19 points — one point shy of a career-best performance.

Evans was one of five CVCC men's basketball players who reached double figures in scoring on Wednesday, including Derrick Molden (11 points), A.J. Daniels (10 points), E.J. Thomas (10 points) and Cameron Walden (10 points).

CVCC took a 47-34 lead at halftime against the Cougars (3-7, 3-7 in Region 10) with Evans leading the first-half charge with 13 points.

Central Carolina worked its way back into the contest in the second half, using a 19-6 run to tie the game at 53-53 with 12:53 left in the game.

However, the Red Hawks would score the next eight points following that run and hold off several late rallies by the Cougars to claim the Region 10 road victory.

The CVCC men's basketball team returns to the court on Saturday for a home conference contest against Louisburg. Tip off is set for 3 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex.
