Fuller scores 33 points in Red Hawks’ loss at Cobras

HICKORY, N.C. — Catawba Valley Community College sophomore guard Nasim Fuller continued to make program history on Tuesday night, scoring a near-record 33 points in the Red Hawks' 97-82 loss to Division I Caldwell Cobras on Wednesday night.

The 33 points by Fuller are tied for the second-most in the history of the Red Hawk men's basketball program. Derick Brewer also scored 33 points on Feb. 26, 2017 versus Fayetteville Tech, and Tryle Poindexter also scored 33 against Bryant & Stratton on March 1, 2015.

Jonathan McFall owns the Red Hawk record record for most points scored in a game with 39, which took place during the Region 10 semifinals against Louisburg on March 6, 2020.

Demetrius Washington added 12 points for CVCC in Tuesday's contest against Caldwell, while Shad Thomas scored 11 points.

Caldwell took a 51-37 lead at halftime, and despite a strong second half by Catawba Valley, the Cobras were able to hold that advantage and pick up the rivalry win.

The CVCC men's basketball team is back in action on Saturday for a home contest against Central Carolina. Tip off is set for 3 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex.
