DUE WEST, S.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team successfully opened its 2023-24 season on Thursday with a 68-56 road win against the Erskine JV team.

Nasim Fuller led the Red Hawks (1-0) in the victory with 17 points and four rebounds, while Malik Hamrick added 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Red Hawks led Erskine 33-32 at halftime, and CVCC pulled away in the contest by outscoring the Flying Fleet 35-24 in the second half en route to the 12-point win.

Catawba Valley returns to action this Friday and Saturday for a two-day event featuring the Red Hawks, Caldwell CCT&I, Gaston College and Patrick & Henry.

CVCC plays Caldwell on Friday at 6 p.m. and Gaston College at 3 p.m. Saturday.
