JAMESTOWN, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team successfully opened the conference portion of its 2023-24 season on Tuesday, defeating Guilford Tech 92-83 at the Mary Perry Ragsdale YMCA.

Evan Presnell led the Red Hawks (2-2, 1-0) with 27 points, seven rebounds and eight assists.

Nasim Fuller added 22 points and five rebounds for CVCC, and Jayden Birchfield recorded his first career double double for the Red Hawks with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Catawba Valley led Guilford Tech (2-3, 0-2) at halftime by a 50-38 score and despite several second-half runs by the Titans, the Red Hawks pulled away for the Region 10 victory.

The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team hosts its first conference games of the season on Sunday against Central Carolina. Tip off at the Tarlton Complex is set for 1 p.m.
