Red Hawks earn big conference win against Fayetteville Tech

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team earned a huge 90-88 home conference win on Sunday against Fayetteville Tech at the Tarlton Complex.

Nasim Fuller led the Red Hawks (11-13, 10-10 in Region 10) with a season-high 31 points — just two points shy of his career high. Malik Hamrick added 17 points for CVCC and teammates Jeremiah Jones (13 points) and  Benton Wofford (11 points) also reached double figures in scoring.

Catawba Valley led 42-27 at halftime powered by 18 points from Fuller, but the Trojans (21-6, 14-5) roared back with 61 second-half points to put themselves in a position to win.

Tied 85-85 with 25.3 seconds remaining in the game, Evan Presnell's floating lay up broke the deadlock to put the Red Hawks up for good in the contest.

With the Red Hawks leading 90-88 and time running out, a three-point shot by the Trojans' Melquan Jackson at the buzzer glanced off the rim to preserve the win for CVCC.

The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday for "Sophomore Day" against Pitt. Tip off is set for 3 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex. Admission is $5.
