Bryan Garmroth enters his 12th season as the head men's basketball coach at Catawba Valley Community College in 2022-23.

A coaching veteran, Garmroth enters his 30th season of coaching college basketball this winter, including experience at the NCAA Division I and II levels. He enters his 18th season at the junior college level in 2021-22. His broad experience and multiple contacts at all collegiate levels is a major asset for CVCC student-athletes on the court and to those who want to continue their basketball career at a four year school. Garmroth has coached 59 junior college men's basketball players who have gone on to sign with four-year schools.

Garmroth started his coaching career in 1992-93, leading Alabama Southern to a 15-11 record.

He served as the head coach at Spartanburg Methodist for six seasons (1996-2002), leading the Pioneers to 137 victories and only 45 losses. He was named Region X Division I Coach of the Year twice at Spartanburg Methodist (1998-99, 2001-02).

Following coaching stints with UNC Pembroke, the semi-pro South Carolina Heat and at Maudlin High School (S.C.), Garmroth was hired to become the new head men's basketball coach at Catawba Valley Community College in May 2011, replacing Andy Anderson.

Since that time, Garmroth has posted a 191-138 record at Catawba Valley.

Garmroth posted his best season at CVCC in 2015-16, leading the program to a school-best 23-9 record and runner-up finish in the district tournament — finishing one game shy of reaching the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II national tournament. The 20-win campaign marked only the second time that the Red Hawks had recorded a 20-plus victory season. Garmroth was named Region X Coach of the Year that season.

On Jan. 11, 2017, Garmroth posted his 250th career coaching victory with an 88-71 win by the Red Hawks against Guilford Tech. He has a career coaching record of 324-182, and his teams have won five Region X championships or co-championships and one team claiming the District X championship and a trip to the NJCAA final 16 in Hutchison, Kan.

Under Garmroth's guidance, the Red Hawks had one of their best seasons ever in 2019-20, winning 22 games — the second-most in a season in program history. Catawba Valley also had two All-Region 10 performers in guard Jonathan McFall and forward Sal-Bey Young.

During a shortened 2020-21 season, Garmroth led the Red Hawks to 13 wins, and his program had three All-Region selections for the first time in program history, including Jaylen Prioleau, Derrick Molden and Donovan Evans.

Garmorth has helped 69 student-athletes receive scholarships to continue their education and playing career at four-year universities. Twelve of his players have played professionally overseas after completing their four-year career.
