6 Red Hawk softball players earn All-Region accolades

HICKORY, N.C. — Six members of the Catawba Valley Community College softball team have been honored by Region 10 following the conclusion of the season.

Pitcher Mayson Lail, infielders Chesney Stikeleather and Rileigh Farr, outfielders Miranda Valerio and Abby Teague and catcher Kayla Hollar all received all-conference accolades.

This marks the second-straight season that the Red Hawk softball program had six student athletes honored by the Region.

Lail and Stikeleather receive All-Region honors for the second time in their careers — a first in program history. Both student athletes were named first team All-Region.

Lail finished her sophomore season on the mound with a 15-4 overall record. She tallied 149 strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA. She finished her Red Hawk career as the program record holder in wins (37) and innings pitched (308.1).

Stikeleather tallied a team-best .443 average, .481 on-base percentage and .742 slugging percentage this spring. She also led the team in hits (43) and was second in runs scored (33) and third in RBI (33) and doubles (5).

Four members of the Red Hawk softball team were named second team All-Region, including Kayla Hollar, Rileigh Farr, Miranda Valerio and Abby Teague.

Hollar tallied a .343 batting average with 35 hits, including seven doubles and a team-high nine home runs. She also tallied 34 runs batted in and scored 32 runs.

Farr led the Red Hawks this season with 36 runs batted in while finishing second in home runs with nine. She recorded a .348 batting average, which was third-best for CVCC this spring.

Valerio finished her freshman season with a .333 batting average, 29 hits and 11 RBI. She stole a team-high 14 bases and also drew a team-best 18 walks.

Teague ended her CVCC softball career with a solid final season. She recorded a .374 batting average, which was second among Red Hawk hitters, to go with 34 hits, including the team's lone triple.

The Catawba Valley Community College softball team finished its 2024 spring season with a 23-11 overall record and 19-7 mark in region games. The Red Hawks were also ranked as high as 17th nationally.
