CVCC’s Daniels signs with Montreat College

Catawba Valley Community College sophomore forward Jala Daniels (Charlotte, N.C.) recently signed to continue her athletic career at Montreat College.

The 5-foot-8 Daniels was the second-leading scorer for the CVCC women's basketball program this past winter, averaging 12.0 points per contest after starting in all 27 games.

The former Harding University High School product led the Lady Red Hawks in rebounding (7.5 per game) and field goal percentage (52.7 percent) during the 2016-17 season.

Her season-best performance came on Jan. 28 when she scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 77-45 victory against Fayetteville Tech at the Tarlton Complex.

In 19 conference games in the 2016-17 season, Daniels averaged 11.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest.

Behind Daniels, the Lady Red Hawks finished their season 21-8 overall and 14-6 in Region X play.

"It has been a pleasure coaching Jala and helping her to become a better student-athlete," said CVCC women's basketball coach Tisha England. "My gift back to Jala is all the teachings and instilling of character, integrity, life lessons and the game of basketball. Montreat College is blessed to have a well-rounded student-athlete to be a part of their program. May the blessings upon Jala and Montreat College continue."

So far, Daniels is the second member of the Lady Red Hawks women's basketball program to continue their athletic career by signing with a four-year institution. Sophomore guard Ieshia Love signed with UNC-Pembroke last month.
