Red Hawks win fourth straight, top Valkyries

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team won its fourth-straight game on Sunday, topping the Converse College JV squad 76-53 on the road.

Shaniya Lester paced the Red Hawks (5-1) in the contest with 24 points, including 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Lester also made four assists and three steals.

Nikkyana McCaskill added 16 points for Catawba Valley — making all six of her free throw attempts — and Red Hawks sophomore forward Tanisha Wall recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

CVCC pulled ahead 22-8 by the end of the first quarter against Converse and continued to hold a double digit-advantage by halftime, 40-27.

After leading by 13 points at the end of the third quarter (52-39), the Red Hawks exploded for 24 points in the final quarter en route to the double-digit non-conference road victory.

Tori Henderson paced the Valkyries with 17 points in the contest.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Friday when they host Clinton Junior College at the Tarlton Complex. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
