Red Hawks’ win streak ended by Senators

MORRISTOWN, TENN. — The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team's win streak came to an end on Tuesday night on the road at the hands of host Walters State.

The Red Hawks fell 75-48 to the Senators, losing for the first time in six games.

Shaniya Lester scored a team-high 20 points to pace CVCC (7-2) in the contest, while Zharia Brown added 11 points.

Zacharyia Esmon scored 19 points to lead the Senators (10-3) in their victory, while teammate Dajah Montgomery added 15 points.

The Red Hawks remained within striking distance after the first quarter, trailing 17-14 to the Senators.

However, Walters State outscored CVCC 23-12 in the second quarter, distancing itself en route to the non-conference victory.

The CVCC women's basketball team returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Virginia Beach, Va. to take on Bryant & Stratton College. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
