Red Hawks top Bobcats, move to 3-0 in Region X

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in Region X play on Sunday, winning 56-52 against host Bryant & Stratton College.

CVCC overcame a 33-22 halftime deficit in the contest, powered by 10 second-half points from Zharia Brown and seven fourth-quarter points scored by Shaniya Lester.

"The Lady Red Hawks fought through adversity and played with heart," said CVCC head women's basketball coach Tisha England. "Words can not express how the ladies rallied together and pushed forward."

Lester scored 15 points to lead the Red Hawks (8-2, 3-0 in Region X), while Brown added 13 points in the game.

Tiara Williams paced the Bobcats (7-4, 4-3) with 16 points, and teammate Felise Keys added eight points.

The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday for a doubleheader at the Tarlton Complex.

The CVCC women's basketball team faces Cape Fear at 3 p.m. followed by the CVCC men's basketball team in action against Wake Tech at 5 p.m.
