Red Hawks roll past Trojans, win fifth-straight game

HICKORY, N.C. — The 17th-ranked Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team reached the century mark for the second time in three games, earning its fifth-straight win in a 105-39 victory against visiting Fayetteville Tech on Saturday at the Tarlton Complex.

Five Red Hawks reached double figures in scoring in Saturday's game, led by sophomore Tanisha Wall, who tied her career high with 23 points. Wall added 10 rebounds — recording her sixth double double of the season.

Freshman post player Zharia Brown also tied her career high— recording a double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Catawba Valley sophomore Shaniya Lester nearly had a near triple double with 16 points, seven rebounds and eight assists and Nikkyanna McCaskill scored 18 points and dished out nine assists.

The Red Hawks were balanced throughout Saturday's conference game, scoring 26 points in each of the game's first three quarters before scoring 27 in the fourth quarter.

Fayetteville Tech, which drops to 6-14 overall and 4-14 in Region X, was led by Dajah Horne's 14 points.

The CVCC women's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday with a home conference game against Patrick Henry Community College. Tip off is slated for 5 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex.
