Balanced Red Hawks erase Eagles, win 10th in a row

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team won its 10th straight game on Saturday afternoon, winning 85-38 against conference host Wake Tech to sweep the regular season series against the Eagles.

Seven different CVCC women's basketball players reached double figures in scoring in Saturday's game, including a team-high 15 points from Milequa Eason.

Danielle Rainey (13 points), Ivy Eller (12), Aniya Taylor (12), Sherry Johnson (11), Zharia Brown (10) and Taziah Hardin (10) also reached double figures in scoring for the Red Hawks (18-3, 12-1 in Region X).

Paced by 10 first-half points from Eller, Catawba Valley grabbed a 39-24 halftime led on Saturday, and the Red Hawks went on to outscore the Eagles 46-22 during the second half. Johnson scored nine of her 11 points during the half.

Timia Grant paced the Eagles (11-10, 6-8 in Region X) with a game-high 20 points.

The CVCC women's basketball team will try to stretch its winning streak to 11 games on Sunday with a second road conference contest in two days with Lenoir Community College. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. in Kinston, N.C.
