Brown-led Red Hawks decimate Dolphins, 88-44
BOLIVIA, N.C. — The 11th-ranked Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team capped a weekend of road conference games on Sunday, bashing Brunswick Community College 88-44 at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center.
 
Zharia Brown led the Red Hawks (23-4, 17-2 in Region X) with 20 points — her second 20-point scoring performance of the season.
 
CVCC freshman Aniya Taylor added 18 points and sophomores Sherry Johnson and Danielle Rainey also reached double figures in scoring with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
 
The Red Hawks immediately took command of Sunday's conference tilt with the Dolphins (13-14, 6-13), outscoring them 26-5 during the first quarter. Brown scored eight points during the quarter.
 
Catawba Valley would continue to build on that 21-point lead throughout Sunday's game on its way to a 44-point road win in Region X play.
 
Kapria Pressley led Brunswick Community College with a game-high 24 points.
 
The CVCC women's basketball team closes out its regular season with one final conference game on Wednesday on the road against Clinton Junior College.
