Red Hawks finish off Florida tournament with 58-54 win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team finished off its two-day appearance at the FSCJ Classic with a 58-54 victory against host Florida State College at Jacksonville on Saturday.

Rylie Hogg led the Red Hawks (2-2) with a season-high 17 points — one of three Catawba Valley players who reached double figures in scoring, including Sabrina Lewis (14 points) and Angelina Bobbitt (11 points).

Catawba Valley overcame a 20-5 first-quarter deficit in the contest. The Red Hawks were sparked in the second quarter by Hogg's nine points, six points from Lewis and five from Anayah Turner to cut their deficit to 31-27 by halftime.

CVCC outscored the Blue Wave 31-25 during the second half to come away with its second win of 2023-24. Both of the Red Hawks' wins so far this season have come via a 58-54 score.

The CVCC women's basketball team has a lengthy break before returning to action on Sunday, Dec. 3 for a home showdown against Central Carolina. Tip off is set for 1 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex.
