Red Hawks top Trojans on Sophomore Night; England wins 200th

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team celebrated a success Sophomore Night on Sunday with a 57-50 victory against Fayetteville Tech at the Tarlton Complex.

The victory also marked the 200th in the career for head women's basketball coach Tisha England.

Sabrina Lewis led the Red Hawks (10-16, 8-13 in Region 10) with a team-high 12 points while Alexia Cunningham recorded a double double with 11 points and 20 rebounds. It was the third-straight game that Cunningham — the nation's leader in rebounding — recorded 20 or more rebounds.

The Red Hawks led the Trojans 33-36 at halftime, but Fayetteville Tech powered back in the third quarter to take the lead.

However, Catawba Valley was able to hold off the late charge by the visitors to secure the Region 10 win.

The Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team finishes its 2023-24 regular season with three-straight conference road games starting with a contest against Southwest Virginia on Wednesday in Cedar Bluff, Va. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
