5 Red Hawk women’s basketball players receive Region 10 honors

HICKORY, N.C. — Five members of the Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team have been honored for their performance on the court and in the classroom.

Red Hawk forward Alexia Cunningham and guards Sabrina Lewis, Rylie Hogg, Caleeya Duke and Erianna Scott were all honored by the conference following the completion of the 2023-24 regular season.

Cunningham, a sophomore forward from Charlotte, N.C., was selected third team All-Region for her play on the court.

The nation's leading rebounder among all NJCAA Division II women's basketball players, Cunningham broke CVCC's single-season (451) and career records (644) for rebounding this season.

Cunningham finished her sophomore season averaging 9.2 points per game, which was third most for the Red Hawks this winter.

A freshman from Madison County, Virginia, Lewis was also named third team All-Region.

Lewis led the Red Hawks in scoring this season with 17.6 points per game. She also was third on the team in rebounds per game (5.8), second in field goal percentage (36.3) and led the team in three-point percentage (36.3).

Hogg was named honorable mention All-Region after finishing her sophomore season second in scoring for the Red Hawks at 11.2 points per contest. She also tallied 4.4 rebounds per game and shot an even 30 percent from the field for the season.

Lewis and Hogg along with teammates Caleeya Duke and Erianna Scott were named Region 10 Academic All-Region for their work in the classroom.

The Region 10 Academic All-Region honor is given to student athletes who finish the season with a 3.0 GPA. A total of 29 students athletes from 10 colleges in the Region were award.

This is the fourth time in the past five seasons that the Red Hawks have placed four or more women's basketball players on the Region 10 Academic All-Region.
