Tyra Carver enters her first season as an assistant women's basketball coach at CVCC.

Carver comes to Catawba Valley after coaching last season at conference rival Louisburg College.

A former prep standout at Kalamazoo Central High School (Mich.), Carver was a three-year varsity player for the Maroon Giants, earning all-conference honors as a senior after battling two ACL tears.

Carver went on to become a standout at NAIA Division II Goshen College (Ind.), where she earned all-conference honors twice and made the national tournament team as a senior, leading the Maple Leafs to the NAIA Division II Final Four.

Carver finished her collegiate career at Goshen ranking in the top 10 in scoring, field goals made and attempted, 3-point field goal percentage and free throws made and attempted.

Following her collegiate career, Carver played semi-professionally in the Women's Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) for the Grand Rapids Galaxy (Mich.).

Last winter, Carver was named an assistant coach for the Louisburg College varsity women's basketball program and head coach of the school's JV women's basketball squad. She assisted in coaching a Hurricanes varsity team that went 26-6 overall and 15-5 in conference play.

Carver also coached guard Jasmine Covington, who was named Region X Player of the Year and a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) First Team All-American. Four of the Hurricane players whom Carver had a hand in coaching also signed with NCAA Division I and II schools last school year.

The daughter of Terrence and Tammatha Carver, Carver has a degree in Broadcasting with minors in both Kinesiology and Coaching from Goshen College.
