Red Hawks Volleyball Sweep Major Region X Awards

The Catawba Valley Red Hawks Volleyball team swept the major Region X season awards with sophomore, Megan Fair being named Region X Player of the Year and Head Coach Shannon Hudson being named Region X Coach of the Year.  This is a repeat for both as Fair and Coach Hudson received the same awards in the 2015 season.  Fair was joined by fellow sophomores Mariah Wallace, McKala Bozman, and Ada Thompson as First Team All-Region X selections.

Outside hitter, Megan Fair led the region in hitting percentage with a .307 and was second with kills (425) kills per set (3.54), total attacks (931) and points 489.  Fair was fifth in the region with points per set at 4.1).  Outside hitter, Mariah Wallace was top 10 in the region in 6 statistical categories, she was third in kills (354), points (430), fourth in total attacks (883), fifth in digs (386), seventh in kills per set (2.93) and ninth in points per set (3.6).

Middle Hitter, McKala Bozman led the region in total blocks (148) and block assists (114).  Bozman was fourth in the region in blocks per set (1.25), fifth in points (366) and seventh in total kills with 268.  Setter, Ada Thompson rounded all the All-Region selections leading the region in total assists (1149) and assists per set (9.74).  Thompson was also fourth in the region with 62 block assists, this is the second season in a row Thompson has been named All-Region. 

For Coach Shannon Hudson this is the sixth time in her eight year career at CVCC where she was named Region X Coach of the Year.  This is also the 5th season in a row where she has led the Red Hawks to an undefeated record in region play and 8th regular season conference championship in a row.  Coach Hudson recorded the Red Hawks highest ranking in program history at #4 and finished with a program best finish at #5 in the NJCAA polls.  The Red Hawks logged 7 wins over NJCAA top 20 teams and tied a program best 36 regular season wins (36-0 in 2013).  The Red Hawks ranked in the top 10 in 10 statistical categories.  They were in the top 5 in 7 of those categories; service aces (1st with 430), service aces per set (3rd with 3.07), matches (3rd with 42), total points (3rd with 2427), kills (4th with 1741), hitting percentage (4th at .309), and points per set (4th with 17.3).  The Red Hawks will look to claim Coach Hudson's fourth district title and fourth trip to the national tournament in Charleston, West Virginia, the last coming in the 2013 season.
