Red Hawks win third-straight match, top Indians

ALLENDALE, S.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College volleyball team opened up Region X play on Wednesday night with a decisive 3-0 road victory against USC Salkehatchie.

Set scores were 25-8, 25-12 and 25-5.

Freshmen Siena Naotala and Sage Harrington led the way for the Red Hawks (4-2) with five kills apiece, while sophomore Na-Diea Atkins and freshmen Meredith Patterson and Rachel Delcamp added four kills apiece in a balanced attack for CVCC.

Setter Macy Pope also made a team-high 10 assists and added seven digs defensively, and fellow captain Emily Williams led the squad with eight digs.

The Red Hawks, who have now won 113 straight conference matches, return to action on Friday for the first of two days of competition at the annual Pasco-Hernando Bobcat Invitational in New Port Richey, Fla.

Catawba Valley will play Indian River State College at 11 a.m. Friday followed by a 3 p.m. contest against St. Johns River State College.

The Red Hawks will close out their tournament appearance with a 10 a.m. match up Saturday against rival Pasco-Hernando before finishing tournament play with a noon match against Kansas City Community College.
