Red Hawks hold successful Inaugural golf tournament

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College Athletic Department held its Inaugural golf tournament on Monday at Catawba Country Club with successful results.

Proceeds raised from the event benefitted the Hawks Heroes program, which provides the backbone for financial support for CVCC Athletics. Funds raised from the tournament also help to provide scholarships for Red Hawk student athletes, athletic facility improvements and other program needs.

"Monday was an exciting day for our athletic department to bond and spend time with members of the community," said Catawba Valley Athletic Director Nick Schroeder. "We are so thankful to those businesses and individuals who helped to make our Inaugural golf tournament a successful event, which will help to continue to provide opportunities to change the lives of our student athletes here at Catawba Valley Community College."

The Red Hawks hosted 23 teams for the four-person captain's choice event that had a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Winners from the first flight included:

First place: Van Nance, Joey Sadowski, Brian Norris and Andrew Pitts - round of 48
Second place: Joe Kastelic, Jeremy Krech, Patrick Laney and Taylor Laney - round of 50.
Third place: Bryon Hollar, Jon Gibbs, Doyle Wyantt and Bryan Thurman - round of 51.

Winners from the second flight included:

First place: Taylor Fisher, Scott Hines, Clay Neill and Ed Neill - round of 57
Second place: Pedie King, Rich Stober, Rob Bliss and Brent Johnson - round of 58.
Third place: Brandon Harbinson, Jack Hoke, Doug Rhoney and Samy Shreitah - round of 60.
