Red Hawks stung by record 22 hits in loss to FTDC

LEXINGTON, S.C. — The 20th-ranked Catawba Valley Community College baseball team gave up a program-record 22 hits in a 16-4 loss to Division I Florence Darlington Tech at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Third baseman Grant Tilley led the Red Hawks (23-13) with two RBIs, while left fielder Jackson Brown and designated hitter Sabion Thomas tallied a team-high two hits in the contest.

The Stingers (28-9) scored in all, but one inning of Wednesday's non-league contest, scoring four runs in the first and third innings, three runs in the second inning, two runs in the fifth and sixth innings and one run in the fourth inning.

Of the 16 runs surrendered by CVCC pitchers, 10 were earned. The Red Hawks also committed five errors in the contest.

Second baseman Ryan Moore led Florence Darlington Tech with four hits in six at bats, including six RBIs and three runs scored.

The CVCC baseball team returns to action this weekend for a conference series against Southeastern Community College.

The Red Hawks and Rams play a nine-inning game Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
