Red Hawks fall at home versus Region X foe Dolphins

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team fell12-2 in eight innings against conference rival Brunswick Community College.With the loss, the Red Hawks fall to 26-17 overall and 10-8 in Region X play. 

After rain cancelled Friday's single nine-inning game between the two squads, CVCC and BCC were scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday, but game two was called by officials during the middle of the second inning due to inclement weather. The contest will not be made up.

Center fielder Brett Eurey led CVCC in Saturday's single nine-inning game, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a solo home run — his team-leading fourth blast of the season.

Red Hawk second baseman R.J. Conner added two hits, including an RBI double, while first baseman Tyler Campbell and infielder Jamie Sheek also tallied one hit apiece.

On the mound, Catawba Valley starting pitcher Blake Dockery suffered just his second loss of the season. He allowed seven hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out five batters in four innings of work.

Kyle Tatum and Tristian Marsh led Brunswick (31-8, 21-4 in Region) on offense with two RBIs each. Kolbie MacKinnon recorded a team-high three hits, while Chase Sykes, Hunter Ashburn and Alec Dumas each tallied two hits.

Dolphins starting pitcher Josh Jarman picked up the win, allowing four hits, one earned run, one walk and striking out five batters.

The CVCC baseball team returns to action on Tuesday with a non-conference road doubleheader against Spartanburg Methodist. First pitch between the Red Hawks and Pioneers is set for 1 p.m.
