HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team received a stellar pitching performance on Wednesday from sophomores Joseph Webb and Ethan Young in a 3-2 victory against Cleveland Community College at Henkel-Alley Field.

Webb and Young combined to strike out 16 batters in the contest, helping the Red Hawks earn their 21st win of the season and 13th in Region 10 play.

Four of the game's five runs were scored in the first inning of Wednesday's contest starting with an RBI double by Cleveland right fielder Josh Morgan in the top of the first.

The Red Hawks answered back with three runs in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI triple by center fielder Carter Lindsay, an RBI double by third baseman A.J. Ciaccio and an RBI sac fly by Jake Gorman.

After giving up the game's opening run, Webb settled in and recorded at least two strikeouts in each of the next three innings. He finished Wednesday's conference game with a season-high 11 strikeouts.

Young relieved Webb with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, and he continued the dominance for the Red Hawks on the mound. Young only allowed two Yeti batters to reach base in the final 3.1 innings, and he struck out five batters of his own.

Webb improved to 5-2 on the season with the victory, and Young earned his fifth save of the spring.
