5 Red Hawks receive Region 10 baseball honors

HICKORY, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team received five honors from Region 10 following the completion of the 2023-24 regular season.

Red Hawk outfielders Connor Bradley and Carter Lindsay, pitchers Joseph Webb and Ethan Young and catcher Gage Weaver were named All-Region 10 performers.

This is the third time in the past four seasons that five or more Red Hawk baseball players have received Region honors.

Weaver became just the second Red Hawk to earn Region 10 Defensive Player of the Year honors. Catcher Riley Smith won the honor back in the 2017 season.

Weaver, who was also named to the All-Region defensive team, tallied 215 put outs and 30 assists behind the plate with just one error in 33 games.

Bradley received first team All-Region and first team west division honors. He finished his sophomore season with 65 hits, including a team-leading 14 doubles and 10 home runs. He also drove in 52 RBIs, which were second-most for the Red Hawks, and his .657 slugging percentage led all CVCC baseball players.

Webb, who was named second team west division, made nine starts with two complete games for Catawba Valley this spring, tallying a 7-4 record with a team-high 72 strikeouts. He also recorded a 5.46 ERA with 10.62 strikeouts per nine innings.

A second team West Division selection, Young was dominant out of the bullpen for CVCC, recording a program-record seven saves this spring. Young struck out 49 batters and allowed just 10 walks in 35.2 innings.

Lindsay was named a second team west division performer as well. He tied for the team lead in RBIs this spring with 56. He etched a .343 batting average, .429 on-base percentage and a .540 slugging percentage. His 68 hits and three triples led all Catawba Valley baseball players.

The Red Hawks finished their 2024 baseball season with 27 wins, including 17 in conference play.
