Red Hawks fall to Bryant & Stratton to end the Season

#5 Derick Brewer The 2016/17 Red Hawks Men's Basketball season came to a close this weekend in an 80-66 loss to the #5 seed in the tournament, Bryant & Stratton.  The Red Hawks finish the season 19-11 and were 1 win away from achieving a 20 win season for the 2nd straight year.  Prior to the start of the game sophomore guard Derick Brewer was honored as All-Region being named 3rd Team All-Region X.  Brewer led the Red Hawks by scoring 15.7 points per game.  Brewer also averaged 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

The Red Hawks battled in the first half in a back and forth affair heading into the locker room trailing by two with the score 38-36.  Coming out in the second half Bryant & Stratton was on fire outscoring the Red Hawks 15-2.  The Red Hawks were able to battle and get within 6 points with 3 minutes left but could never get closer being outscored 11-3 in the final 3 minutes.

#50 Emmanuel Wembi The Red Hawks were led by sophomore forward Emmanuel Wembi who logged his 18th double-double on the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds.  Sophomore guards Kenan Turpin and Matthew Powell also scored double digits with 13 and 10 respectively.  Sophomore forward Nolan Whitener was 1 point shy of the double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds. 

While the Red Hawks season is over, this marked the third straight year of the Red Hawks reaching at least the Region X Tournament Quarterfinals.  This years seven sophomore class will leave CVCC the winningest group in program history with a 42-20 record.
