Red Hawks fall 85-67 against hot-shooting Bobcats

HICKORY, N.C. — Unable to stop strong outside shooting, the 16th-ranked Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team fell 85-67 to Bryant & Stratton at the Tarlton Complex on Friday afternoon.

The Bobcats made thirteen 3-point baskets in the contest, including six from the hands of Tahjay Jacobs, who scored a game-high 21 points.

Down 27-22 with just under four minutes left in the first half, the Red Hawks were outscored 14-6 and trailed 44-28 at halftime.

After returning to the game following two early fouls in the first half, Catawba Valley sophomore forward Isayah Johnson scored a team-high 17 points, including 15 of those coming in the second half.

CVCC trailed by as many as 19 points in Friday's conference game, but cut that deficit to just eight points with exactly eight minutes remaining.

However, Bryant & Stratton capitalized on 28 Catawba Valley turnovers and pulled away late for the conference victory.

Zach De La Cruz added 11 points for the Red Hawks in Friday's game.

The CVCC men's basketball team will attempt to rebound on Sunday when it hosts Pitt for another conference game at the Tarlton Complex. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.
