WINTERVILLE, N.C. — The Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped at the hands of host Pitt Community College in a 65-60 road conference loss on Sunday afternoon.

It was CVCC's second loss to Pitt in the past 14 days. The first defeat came on Jan. 6 when the Red Hawks had a last-second game-winning shot waved off by officials in a 109-108 overtime loss to the Bulldogs at the Tarlton Complex.

Sal-Bey Young paced the Red Hawks (14-5, 6-4 in Region X) with 10 points, while Zach De La Cruz, Isayah Johnson and Cole Johnson each scored eight points.

Catawba Valley and Pitt played an extremely competitive first half, but the Bulldogs (14-4, 11-0 in Region X) gained a 29-27 lead at halftime. De La Cruz scored all eight of his points in the first half for CVCC.

Pitt managed to hold its advantage in the second half, paced by nine points from Rujon Walters and eight from Reginald Clark, to secure the five-point conference win.

Clark led Pitt with 21 points and 13 rebounds and Walters added 12 points. The Bulldogs, who lead Region X by three games, have now won nine-straight contests.

The CVCC men's basketball team returns to the court on Wednesday in another pivotal conference contest against rival Wake Tech. Tip off between the Red Hawks and Eagles is set for 7 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex.
