Red Hawks' Palmer, Tshiona sign to play at next level

HICKORY, N.C. — Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball players Everett Palmer and Victor Tshiona signed to play at the next level on Thursday afternoon during a special ceremony held at the Tarlton Complex.

Palmer is joining the Ferrum College Panthers in Ferrum, Va., while Tshiona is heading to play at Montreat College Cavaliers in Montreat, N.C.

A 6-foot-3 guard from Roxboro, N.C., Palmer started in all 31 games for the Red Hawks this past winter, averaging 4.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest.

The former Person High School standout finishes his Catawba Valley career with 171 points, 74 rebounds and 42 assists. Palmer becomes the first CVCC men's basketball player to sign with Ferrum College.

A 6-foot-6 forward from Charlotte, N.C., Tshiona (pronounced she-oh-nuh) played in 28 games this past winter, including nine starts. He averaged 4.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game this past season.

The former Independence High School standout finishes his CVCC men's basketball career with 254 points and 165 rebounds in 54 career games. Tshiona is the first CVCC men's basketball player to sign with Montreat College.

Palmer and Tshiona join teammate Isayah Johnson as CVCC men's basketball signees from the 2018-19 sophomore class. Johnson will play basketball at Mars Hill University this winter.
