Red Hawks’ Isayah Johnson signs with Mars Hill

HICKORY, N.C. — Catawba Valley Community College sophomore men's basketball player Isayah Johnson solidified his academic and athletic future on Wednesday, signing to continue his career at Mars Hill University.

In 57 career games for the Red Hawks, Johnson averaged 12.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.0 block per contest, shooting 57.9 percent from the field.

The former West Charlotte High School product finished his career with 683 points and 373 rebounds — both of which are the third-most in a Red Hawk career — and his 55 blocks are the most by any CVCC men's basketball player in a career.

A 6-foot-7 forward from Charlotte, N.C., Johnson helped lead the Catawba Valley men's basketball program to one of its best seasons this past winter. The Red Hawks finished their 2018-19 campaign with a 22-9 overall record and 13-7 mark in conference games.

CVCC also earned its first-ever national ranking in the NJCAA DII polls.

Johnson is the third member of the CVCC men's basketball team to sign with a four-year institution, joining teammates Everett Palmer (Ferrum College) and Victor Tshiona (Montreat College).
